Women in Leadership Banner

AVAPL has established a new Special Interest Group (SIG), the Women in Leadership SIG.  We have activities planned each year at the VAPL Conference, and we have created a Listserv specifically to address issues related to women psychologists in leadership roles in VA.  We will not screen individuals for this listserv; any VA psychologist who wants to join can participate.  In order to be added to the listserv, please send a request to webmaster1@avapl.org
The specific purpose of the SIG and its listserv is to present a forum to explore multiple issues related to enhancing the role of women psychologists in VA leadership, including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Leadership at all levels
    o   Psychology Service
    o   Local Health Care System
    o   VISN
    o   National VA opportunities
  • Leadership in other contexts, such as professional organizations
  • Special topics in leadership:
    o   Effective leadership
    o   Solving problems as leaders
o   Maximal positive impact in leadership roles
  • Support of male psychologists for women in leadership positions – advancing women’s careers, supportive mentoring, helping create a safe environment, etc.

Some activities have been determined to be the priorities for the Women in Leadership SIG, after discussion at the VAPL Conference and on the Listserv.  These are included in the following document: PRIORITIES FOR THE AVAPL WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP.
